The trigger
Dropico, a 3-dev team in Lyon, was using Bitly Basic ($35/month) for marketing links. Two issues:
- No native Universal Links: their Bitly link opened Safari, not the app.
- Shallow stats: no per-device breakdown.
The migration
In one afternoon:
- Exported 230 active links from Bitly
- Recreated them on shoort.xyz with the same slugs (preserves SEO)
- Configured iOS/Android/Web per link
- Updated every CTA in site and emails
The wins
- −€420/year saved
- +34% more clicks open the app directly (vs Safari)
- Dashboard: per-device, per-day, per-link graphs — frictionless
What they didn't miss
- Custom domain (
drop.shoort.xyzinstead ofbit.ly/xyz) - Simple API to publish links from their back-office
- French-language support
Takeaway
Bitly is powerful but built for web marketing. If your product is mobile, you're paying for features you don't use — and missing the ones that matter.
