5 short-link mistakes costing you installs (and how to avoid them)

1. No Universal Links

The most expensive mistake. Without Universal Links, your installed app is never the default destination. You always go through Safari or Chrome — pointless friction, plummeting open rate.

Fix: shoort.xyz sets them up automatically.

2. Random slug

bit.ly/3xK9aPq vs shoort.xyz/promo-summer. The second is readable, shareable out loud, and gets +15% CTR in our tests.

Fix: use a custom slug whenever you can.

3. One link for every channel

If you put the same short link on Twitter, Instagram, your newsletter, and your flyers, you'll never know which one performs.

Fix: one link per channel. shoort.xyz is free, so no excuse.

4. No web fallback

Your user clicks your iOS link from a Mac: 404. Congrats, you just lost a desktop-first install.

Fix: always configure a web URL even if your product is mobile.

5. External links without tracking

“I posted on Reddit, did it work?” Without a short link, no answer. UTM works for the web, not for mobile redirects.

Fix: everything goes through shoort.xyz, everything is trackable.

Bonus: the golden rule

A link without stats is a blind link. If you can't measure, you can't optimize. And if you can't optimize, you're leaving installs on the table.
